David W. Mockbee

About the Author

David W. Mockbee is president of the Mockbee Hall & Drake law firm in Jackson, Mississippi. David received his B.A. from Davidson College in 1971 and his J.D., with honors, from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1974 where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Mississippi Law Journal and was selected by the law school faculty as the outstanding senior law student. Following law school, he served as law clerk to Judge Charles Clark, Chief Judge of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. David is an elected Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Mississippi Bar Foundation and a National Board of Trial Advocacy certified civil trial advocate. He is a member of the Mississippi State Bar, the Public Contract Section to the American Bar Association, the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

David is General Counsel for the Mississippi Chapter of the American Subcontractors Association and has been an adjunct professor for the Mississippi State University School of Architecture since 1983 where he teaches “Legal Aspects of Architecture, Engineering and the Construction Process” to fifth year architecture students. His practice focuses primarily on the representation of companies in the construction industry. David’s clients include architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, developers and landscape architects from throughout Mississippi and the South.

David has written articles relating to construction and the law generally and has lectured extensively on the subject of construction law. He spoke at the Construction Specification Institute’s 1994, 1995 and 2000 National Conventions, and has been rated a most popular construction law speaker. In 1997 and 2003 he was one of the guest lecturers at the American Subcontractors Association’s National Convention. David is the author of several Mississippi construction law treatises, including this treatise, Mississippi Construction Law, first published in 1994. David is also a contributing author for Construct!, the official publication of the Committee on Construction Litigation, American Bar Association Section of Litigation.
